Edward Burtynsky

Of all of the photographic artist this far, I enjoy him the most. His images are always compelling and beautiful. My favorite image is the one of the torn into quarry or mine, whatever it was. It's the image I've posted with this posting (redundant). The sense of scale is breathtaking and the feeling of human accomplishment is overwhelming. He said that nature was once seen as scaling force for mankind but now mankind is doing it that to itself. It's powerful to know to capabilities that modern technology has given to us and to see it put into action in ways as this, but it's never really pondered on until placed in your face in such a magnificent manor. The landscapes he chooses have specific meaning and I and am a strong believer that if you can describe your work as an artist without hesitation and without fumble, then you'll become more successful and understood within the art community. He is incredible at that. As an artist myself, I pride myself on that very ability and and hoping that it will allow me to get into the Graduate schools I have applied for.
