In order to help people define themselves outside of the consumer goods they purchase, I play with the concept of physical identity. In households, mirrors are the new Mona Lisa. Rather than filling a home with inspirational and important works of art and history, mirrors are hung. The constant self-check of physicality by means of reflection suggest that identity today is defined as the appearance of the face, hair, body size and shape and the clothes purchased to hide, disguise, or flaunt those attributes. By abstracting the most important signifier of self even subtly, is the face still recognizable and does it still define that person? When coupled with poetic verses often of opposing opinions, does your face painted on the canvas still represent who you are? If painted into a new surrounding such as a jungle when you never leave the city are you redefined?
